Middle School Curriculum

Students of course take core classes (English, Spanish, science, math, social studies), but also take a semester long computer science class each year, in order to focus on digital citizenship and proper use of technology, coding, 3D design, app creation, and even a touch of robotics. Students also take music and arts classes, and can focus on band or guitar, as well as enhanced drawing and ceramics techniques. AST implements Project Lead the Way (PLTW) curricula in Math (Algebra Advantage), and in Computer Science (App Creators). Students also focus on civic engagement, and what it means to be a citizen of Honduras, by meeting the requirements of the Honduran Ministry of Education’s ‘Ciclo Común’. Our courses meet U.S. national standards in core academic areas, ensuring a well-rounded and rigorous education.

Dynamic and Engaging
Learning Experience

Technology is seamlessly integrated into the curriculum to enhance engagement and support instruction. Students in Middle School are equipped with their own Chromebook, and each Middle School classroom is equipped with projectors and digital technology, allowing teachers to incorporate videos, images, and interactive websites into their lessons. Learning is enhanced by the use of Schoology as our Learning Management System (LMS) in grades 6-12. Our computer science classroom has 3D printers, robotics to get students hands-on.

Students and teachers use Google Applications for Education to collaborate, communicate, and streamline learning. All educators are at least Google Level 1 Certified educators, and our school was the first Google Reference School in Honduras. Our faculty participates in ongoing professional development to stay at the forefront of educational technology, ensuring that students benefit from innovative and effective teaching practices.

Technology-Enhanced Classrooms

We prioritize Cooperative Learning, as research shows that collaboration enhances student engagement and motivation. Students participate in team-based activities, interactive games, simulations, and group investigations, making learning both meaningful and enjoyable.

To meet diverse learning needs, we implement differentiated instruction, allowing students to receive tailored support. Student accommodations and individualized educational plans help ensure that every student reaches their full potential. Teachers design units of study around essential questions and enduring understandings, fostering deep and critical thinking. Student progress is measured through a mix of classroom and standardized assessments, aligned with learning goals.

Engaging and Personalized Learning

Middle School is a time of personal growth, and we are committed to nurturing students both academically and socially. Our Counseling Office, Special Services, and Character Education Program provide essential guidance and support.

Through skits, role-playing activities, and interactive discussions, students learn about positive behavior, empathy, and responsibility. Additionally, our anti-bullying program fosters a culture of respect, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all.

Character Development and Student Support

Beyond academics, Middle School students have access to a wide range of extracurricular activities designed to develop leadership, teamwork, and social awareness. Some of our exciting clubs and organizations include: Student Council, Knowledge Bowl, Math Olympics, Operation Smile, Jóvenes en Acción.

These opportunities encourage students to explore their interests, build confidence, and contribute to their community.

At AST, our Middle School program is about more than just academics—it’s about inspiring students to become independent thinkers, compassionate leaders, and lifelong learners in a safe, structured, and engaging environment.
