Dear Parents:
Our students and staff have been touched by the havoc that is reigning over Port au Prince, Haiti after Tuesday’s devastating earthquake. I have received calls from parents and teachers concerned and hopeful that in one way or another American School family lends a helping hand to this country.
As in many other situations similar to the above, and from our experience with Hurricane Mitch, we have learned that one of the most effective ways to channel help is by sending a monetary donation to the American School in that city, in this case UNION SCHOOL. Union School, then informs us of how the donation was used. We have not been able to establish communication with the country or the school’s Superintendent Marie France Jean-Baptiste in hopes of learning more about the situation and the country’s needs, and thereby I will wait for her response. Nonetheless, we would like to be ready to help once we do reach her. I will keep you posted.
As for now, monetary donations are welcome at the Development Office (You can send it via your child’s teacher who will then send it to the office). Grade Advisors will also talk to their students to see if donations can come out of their grade money, and STUCO fund. If you send a check, please make check payable to ESCUELA AMERICANA. Once the collection is complete we will deposit everything in our account and send a check payable to UNION SCHOOL. Every donation will be documented and the information of the donations final destination will be sent to all donors.
We thank you in advance for helping this cause.
Sincerely,
Liliana F. de Jenkins
Superintendente
