BACK TO EAGLE COURIER MENU

December is a crazy month for most people. It makes me happy to see the plans most of the High School staff had for the last few days. Instead of relaxing and letting students settle for the minimum, they strived to challenge everyone to enjoy the holidays while still learning important concepts. This is a hard combination, but it was done exceedingly well.

We look forward to:

Classes resume, January 7

(REMEMBER NEW SCHEDULE)

Senior Career Day, January 13

ABSH Knowledge Bowl (AST), January 16-17

Report Cards go home, January 16

IMPORTANT DATE

Sociedad Honoraria His pánica Induction , January 22

AASCA Mus ic Festival (SPS), January 29-31

All of us who witnessed the performances during the Christmas Concert of this past Thursday were in awe of what our students can do. From the cute little voices of the pre-schoolers, to the exhilarating crescendos of the band everyone present enjoyed a piece of Christmas cheer and had a wonderful time. Congratulations to Vicky Díaz , our MC, and to our Music Department: Marco, Mauro and Walter.

Habitat for Humanity had their first trip of the year. Although only a few students could go, our presenc e was felt and appreciated. Thank you Ms. Sierra for your hard work with this club!

Our IB Psychology students with the guidance of Ms. Alia Kafati are embarking in the tough research process of the IB Internal Assessment. Don’t be surprised if you see our young psyc hologists-in-training conducting impressive experiments around school.

Not much is said of the P.E. Department in many schools . I am glad to see that ours has a lot to be proud of. With the guidance of Stanley Padget and the hard work of Jorge Montoya and Manuel Mancía, our P.E. classes give not only the much needed training, but the opportunity for everyone to ex ercise all the other muscles they don’t use in the more academic cours es.

“Extiende Tu Mano” and NHS members visited the Salvador Aguirre nurs ing home last week. Students took personal hygiene products to the elderly and shared precious moments with them.

Special thanks go to Ms. Corea and Ms. Mills the advisors, and Carlos Aguirre and Laura Esquivel the presidents of these clubs.

Ms. Anahí Paredes’ World Civilization classes have created History Games to review the civilizations studied this semester. They have done a great job and the games are both educational and fun to play with. All visitors were thrilled to see the c reativity these students have.

Some parents were thrilled to receive a letter from Young Writers as their child’s work was submitted to The Big Green Poetry Mac hine competition. Some of these poems were selected to feature in a series of regional publications to showcase the creative talent for the area. The following students got their poetry selected for publishing:

Kirsten Motz , Ma. Alejandra Raudales, Victor Shum, Nicole Pina, Katherine Medina, Ada Cruz, Michelle Espinoza, Connie Lozano, Susana Chan, and Olga Frech.

As the first semester comes to an end, most seniors will be expecting their official transcripts to be ready to send the mid-year reports to their prospective universities . The detailed and painstaking task of Ms. Patty Girón and Ms. Yolanda Avilés is appreciated by all of us who knows how grueling and important this job is for the future acceptance of our graduates.

Have a great time during the holidays; we’ll look forward to seeing you at the beginning

of the New Year
