We congratulate our staff, students and parents who supported all of the activities the different grade levels held this month. We are very proud of all your work, your generosity and the solidarity demonstrated during this month, especially during the visits to the different adoption sites.
As a part of their social service and values program, First graders at the Am erican School of Tegucigalpa are supporting “Jovenes en Accion” a youth volunteer group that helps poor children in Honduras. We will be having a field trip to Centro Social El Molino On Dec. 17. They will be hosting 51 children from Nueva Suyapa ages 0-10 yrs. Our students support these guarderias because all these children have working moms with no help at home .Our first graders are wrapping gifts, making candy bags and collected 12 boxes of used toys. They will also celebrate their Christmas party with them instead of celebrating a party at school.
The first graders and the third graders of the American School collaborated with the members of Jovenes en Accion to spread some Christmas cheer. Jovenes en Accion has been involved in these projects for the past five years and is very appreciative of the assistance given them by our younger American School students.
First graders, also known as "Kids in Action", donated used toys to be used in the day cares. These are the same day care center kids that will have food all year thanks t o the generosity of our Empty Bowls fundraiser! They also sold calendars which fund the Jovenes en Accion good work all year long.
Third grade students donated the gifts for 170 children living in rural poverty areas in San Matias. They also wrapped all the gifts and bought candy for a candy hunt activity. This annual Christmas party brings great joy to children who do not have even the basic needs in life that we all enjoy.
Many young hands have joined together to bring happiness this season. Thank you so much!
With the help of the Candy – gram sale during Halloween the 2 grade students collected a large amount of money that will be used towards the construction of a brand new animal shelter.
This year 4 grade again decided to help “Hogar Ana Rosa Maria” since the school is in need of school supplies for the coming school year. All three 4 grade sections decided to be responsible for providing the girls with the school supplies they needed. They took crayons, markers, notebooks, scissors, 3 sets of books and shared a very nice snack.
The girls at the school prepared 3 dances for us and taught the 4 graders how to jump double Dutch jump rope. We all had a great time. These girls are orphans who are lucky enough to have Ms. Rosa Blatman and volunteers from Germany looking after them.
5 grade students went on their 1of three visits to Casitas Kennedy with lots of food and items for to the children at the Center. They will be holding a bake sale at a mall next semester to plan further activities towards Casitas Kennedy.
• Thank you for all your help with Navidad Sin Frio, Teleton, Empty Bowls, the workers’ baskets.
